The playfulness and fun loving nature of the Danish people in Copenhagen, Denmark is best transcribed in the stories of Hans Christian Anderson or the view of the little mermaid staring out into the harbor. This good nature maybe the reason Copenhagen is consistently ranked as the happiest city in the world to live. A group of us was asked to deliver a site study and urban design development plan of the Carlsberg Brewery, a tremendous and historic site that the city planners are trying to reintegrate with Copenhagen. A popular tourist attraction, Carlsberg was just recently connected to the metro and boasts incredible gardens and architecture, plus beer, to draw in people. The site is an urban designers dream. For me, it was a chance to experience a wonderful new culture and fall in love with another aspect of architecture.
